. . . a relative of the Dodo, maybe?
I saw this amazing, beautifully coloured bird - The Shoebill Stork - on ITV's programme: Joanna Lumley's Nile Cruise documentary, and thought I'd share. It lives in Uganda and sadly there are only 1000 are left in the wild. Pictures taken from here and here.

You are right, it DOES kind of resemble the dodo bird. I always wondered though, how "they" knew what an extinct bird looked like. How can they tell by bones alone, what the feathers, and eyes looked like? What if they're completely wrong.....
Know what you mean, and I suppose unless we get a real Jurassic Park moment, we'll never know for sure :-)
