International Urban Fantasy Month - Giveaways!

Hello, fellow urban fantasy fans!

Look what the fabulous Jaye Wells is up to . . .

(and 'cause I'm in the middle of revisions and my brain is fried - I'll let Jaye tell you in her own words - stolen straight from the awesome lady's mouth, err, blog! Oh, and, I'm coming slightly late to the party here - those revisions again :-D)

(Giveaway over at Jaye's, and one here - check below!)

I am hereby declaring October International Urban Fantasy Month!

Yes, yes, we only have two weeks left. But I think we put our evil minds to it, we can really blow this out. Naturally, my first thought was to hold a contest to celebrate. But I didn’t want to do just any contest. I wanted to do something that celebrates the genre but also brings new fans into the fold.

Here’s where you come in. Everyone who writes a love letter to Urban Fantasy on their own blogs (be sure to track back to this one so you’re counted) or here in comments if you don’t have a blog of your own, will be entered for a chance to win an epic prize pack of Urban Fantasy novels (with a couple of paranormal romances thrown in for spice).

So what constitutes an urban fantasy love letter? Talk about your favorite books or characters. Talk about what you love about the genre in general. Write a snarky haiku, romantic sonnet or dirty limerick. Anything goes as long as its about UF and how awesome it is.

Go check out the awesome list of prizes OVER ON JAYE'S BLOG.  Includes a copy of The Sweet Scent of Blood! Yay!

So join in and spread the urban fantasy love. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell the world:

Urban fantasy rocks!

Other authors getting into the spirit of Intl. Urban Fantasy Month are:

Sierra Dean's blog

Michelle Rowan's blog

I love Urban Fantasy because it's a brand new, exciting take on the paranormal genre. It takes world building, action scenes, beautifully fashioned characters and that extreme element to a new high. I give lots of brownie points to the authors for being pioneers into this new genre. They definitely made it their own and fashioned it into a genere that's catching the book world by storm. I'm definitely caught up in it myself! :)

I love all of the kick arse dark brody troubled heroes, and kick arse snarky heroines in UF!
This genre is the bread and butter of my reading material. I love them all. My wall is insulated by their bookish goodness and when I am cold at nigh I curl up with their splendiferous pages.

I love it because honestly it is just so kickass. I love the spunky heroines that know what they want and they do not back down and have to be rescued by the hero (well not all the time at least)

And I love that there is always that hint of romance around the corner, sometimes explored a bit, sometimes growing

I love urban fantasy because it can be so farfetched. I have enough of regular life. I want to read about women with powers, with strange problems, with furry friends or friends with wings. I want to read about things that are so fantastical so that I can escape from the mundane world into a world filled with colorful characters and situations. Where even if the main character is a regular person, she can over come the magic or powers. But my favorite is to read about the people with the magic, or the uber-strength, or even with a bit of amoral attitude. Just because it's different from what we all deal with on a daily basis.

And it's so damned FUN!.

I love UF because its like going on mini holiday without leaving the house. Unlike pure fantasy UF usually has characters and setting in the modern day. So you can almost imagine what it would be like to live next door to a werewolf, have a boyfriend turns into a dragon, best friends with a vampire or have a mage as an enemy!

I love it because it has kick ass heroines. They don't need to be rescued by a man all the time, although from time to time they don't really mind either. Loving action movies as well, and this genre is kinda filled with great action.

I love Urban Fantasy because it mostly takes place in the here and now...unfamiliar things in familiar setings :) In general I love mixings of supernatural and everday life...makes one wonder what might be lurking around the corner!

Everyday I do the same and I can only get away from it all when I read. And one of my favorite genres is urban fantasies because these books are filled with action and takes place in a different world - of course, I'm in love with them. And there're some kick-ass character who I really admire and like :) And everything is even more appealing when the story has a supernatural part in it :)

Thanks for the contest,

Besides the Sabina Kane series, I really love the following awesome UF series: Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin, Kelly Gay’s Charlie Madigan, Kelly Meding’s Dreg City , Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock, Keri Arthur’s Riley Jensen, Nicole Peeler’s Jane True and Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid. Although they have unique characters and storylines, the one thing they all have in common is lots of action and fabulous characters.

I love Urban Fantasy because it is the first genre I discovered when I decided to read something in another language than my native one.Silly I know but first love does hard :)
And I love its authors because they seriously know how to create tough female heroes who struggle to overcome any obstacles!

Because its fun. Really it is. Very often its a world like ours but with magic and vampires and shifters and all kinds of supernatural beings that we dont see in our everyday lives. It allows us to take a break from reality for a little while and escape into a new world that only exists in dreams.

I love UF because I love to read about strong females who don't need men to defend them, I love fantasy and more than everything I love fantasy in real world. That's one of the best thing!
My favorite UF author (or should I say *authors*) is Ilona Andrews.

Thank you for making this awesome giveaway international! :D

I love urban fantasy because so much cool stuff happens! I love the ass-kicking, mostly no-nonsense taking, heroines, and the hot heroes with so many problems. I love the fantasy elements that tie in to the world we recognise and make me imagine that it could happen. Stories with magic and vampires and werewolves and dragons and other things in are just cooler and more interesting than books that are totally normal.
