I love Carrie Vaughn's Kitty the Werewolf books, Kitty is one of my most favourite characters, as are werewolves in general. But when it came to writing my own books and deciding on what paranormal creatures would inhabit my world - and whilst I have fae that can take the shape of animals, such as kelpies and phoukas - I decided against werewolves for one very good reason.
Wolves are extinct in the wild in the UK**
My spellcrackers.com books are set in the UK and wolves have been extinct here for at least a couple of hundred years, thanks to a combination of humans hunting them and their natural habitats disappearing [again due to humans]. Doing
Wales: possibly in the 12th century
England: 1500-1550
Scotland: 1680-1769
Ireland: 1710-1770
So sadly, the only way werewolves are likely to appear in my books are if they're tourists.

* Don't you just love a werewolf called Kitty. LOL!
** I know, I have vampires, and faeries, and goblins, and trolls, and none of them are real [no really they're not ... unless of course, you know different :-)] so why should I worry about not having werewolves, just because wolves are extinct here - well, no one ever said this writing business was logical, did they?! LOL!
*** not that this picture in any way impugns any American tourist that has ever visited, or will ever visit London.
David Naughton [The American Werewolf] in the flesh! What a hottie!

Great giveaway!
I don't think I've read many werewolf books, so I would have to say Jacob the "werewolf" from Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga, or Vivian from Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. Unless werecats count, in which case I'd say Faythe from Rachel Vincent's Stray :)
It ould be awesome to read of some other werewolves!

My favorite werewolf has to be Ryan from Dead is the New Black.
I'd love a chance to win another werewolf book.
lovinfitch(at)aol(dot)com
Hey Ms. Suzanne!!!
Well, I would have to say Sam from Sookie Stackhouse is one of my fave... but he can change into whatever he wishes... which is normally a dog.. And the other one that brings hot fantasies to my mind is Quinn.. but he is a were/tight... from Sookie!
So...if we are talking straigt werewolf... I would have to go with.. Michael Corvin from Underworld. Although he is a hybird. Damn... can't a girl find a true werewolf!
Let me think some more... Salvatore from Alexandra Ivy's Darkness collection.. She is working on his story now... Beyond The Darkness. He is in Darkness Everlasting!
Oh and I mentioned it (of coures) on my blog site... it is one the right side there: http://alliwantandmore.blogspot.com/
Thanks for the links, Jo :-) I really love the trailer for New Moon where the wolves change [haven't yet read the book but it's on my TBR pile :-)]
Alexa: I don't know Ryan, so will go and look him up, thank you :-)
Cecile: Ooh Micael Corvin! Great choice even if he is a hybrid :-) Thanks for the link!
My favorite werewolf would have to be Oz (played by Seth Green) from Buffy.
My favorite werewolves are Elena and Clay from the Women of the Otherworld Series by Kelley Armstrong.
lucky1stuff(at)yahoo(dot)ca
Rylie: Yay! Oz Rocks! He's my fav TV WW :-)
EJG: I love Elena and Clay [and all of Kelly's books too :-)] especially now with the little ones [and all of Kelly's books too :-)]
My favourite would have to be Riley, from Kerri Arthur's Riley Jensen novels.
My tweet @ http://twitter.com/glowstars/status/1970466140
My favourite werewolf would be Remus Lupin from Harry Potter. I loved reading about his history and the pain he goes through during transformation, and how he gets shunned from society. Sadly, the CGI werewolf in the Harry Potter movie looked very fake.

Thanks for the giveaway!
Hey Suzanne,
Well one that Im going to mention is probably one that a lot of people will just laugh thier butt off at. Its called Metalbeast in the UK or Project Metalbeast in the US.
Its a film where a new type of metalic skin is being tested on dead bodies, alas the test subject is a werewolf thats been in cryo stasis. So as you can guess what happens, he morphs, the were gets extra tough and the way they deal with it defies belief. ITs good fun.
Mention the comp on the blog for you.
Hi!
I have to start with Charles and Anna (Alpha and Omega series), but can't avoid mentioning Elena and Clay (Otherworld series).
Thanks for the giveaway
Hi Suzanne,
The American Werewolf in London has to be one of my favourite werewolf movie of all time!
I was eleven years old when it was first released, so not officially allowed to watch it!
I am not sure if this made it all the more appealing!
Excellent film, great comedy and I was scared!!
Jackie
Hi all :)
My werewolf favorite is Charles & Anna (Alpha & Omega serie by Patricia Briggs)
Thanks for this giveaway :)
Definately has to be Jacob from the Twilight Series!
Hello Suzanne,
I picked up a copy The Sweet Scent of Blood at the Rachel Caine signing/Lost Boys viewing in London, which you wer kind enough to sign for me (it's on my TBR list for June!).
But I digress... it's tough to choose one favorite, but I think I agree with several other and am voting for Clay Danvers from Kelley Armstrong. Vane Kattalakis from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters is a strong contender as well.
My favorite tv werewolf would have to be Oz, who can really resist a sarcastic musician?
As far as books go, I have been reading the Mercedes Thompson series and enjoy all of the werewolves, Bran and Sam and Adam, they are all interesting.
My favorite werewolf would have to be Jacob from Twilight. He's delish.
cindyc725 at gmail dot com
My fav. werewolf is Elena from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld. I'm intrigued by the idea that she's the only female werewolf.
My favorite wearwolf is Alex from the sookie stackhouse books.
Hard to pick a favorite from among all of Kelley Armstrong's werewolves, but probably because he is the most "wolf-like", I'll go with Clay.
Speaking of wolf-like werewolves, my favorite film about them is "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson for the simple fact that I prefer werewolves that turn into actual wolves over those that turn into wolfmen.
selestialaurora(at)hotmail(dot)com
Wow. That's a tough one. I have so many favorite werewolves, but I'd have to say my favorites right now would be Charles from Patricia Briggs' Alpha and Omega series, or one of my all-time favorites, Clay, from Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld. Although, if Kitty's Cormac ever went wolf, I'm sure he'd be one of my favorites! Yum.
My favorite werewolf or in this case "werwulf" is Graves from Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow. I just finished reading it and loved it! I can't wait for the next one!
I loved the werewolves in the Howling! When Dee Wallace turns I cried.
I haven't read alot of books with werewolves in them yet. So, so far my favorite werewolf is 'Jacob' from the Twilight Series.
I really want to read the Kitty series. I've read alot of good reviews about them.
My favorite werewolf? In books I have a few favorites. Some are already mentioned above. But here's one I don't think anyone's said yet... Bowen from Kresley Cole's book "Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night".
As for werewolves in a film. My top picks are Scott Speedman as Michael Corvin and Michael Sheen as Lucian.
I blogged about your contest at: http://ladyvampire2u.blogspot.com/2009/06/suzanne-mcleods-getting-furry-with.html

Much though it pains me to admit that I read the Twilight series... Jacob is my favorite. He's definitely the most realistic character in the books. And if I were a undisclosed number of years younger, I would have a crush on his character. Hahahaha

I have Kitty on my shelf waiting to be read.
As for David Naughton, check out his hit from 1979:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F47AfASOnA8
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makin%27_It
Believe it or not, I was going through some stuff yesterday, and I found my 45 rpm of this song! I used to love listening to this! My boyfriend and I just watched American Werewolf in London again last week. So when I found Makin' It on vinyl, I held it up and exclaimed to my boyfriend, "David Naughton singing Makin' It! Do you remember who that is? The guy from American Werewolf in London and the Dr. Pepper commercials!"
What a riot!
I hate to admit that I've NEVER read a werewolf book so please help me rectify that!

Hey please enter me, thanks!

One of my favourite werewolf movies was the first one I saw as a teen, "An American Werewolf in Paris".
Thanks for holding this great contest.
jake.lsewhere[at]gmail.com
My favorite werewolf is probably Patricia Briggs' Adam but Kitty is my second fav.
Ladytink_534(at)yahoo(dot)com
At the moment I only remember my latest werewolf read. It was The Better to Hold you by Alisa Scheckley. I'm currently waiting for the next book to see what happens with Abra and Red.
my favorite (so far) werewolf in fiction is Kitty. In movies - it would be the teenage werewolf played by Michael J Fox (forgot the movie name though).
My favorite werewolf is Riley from Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson series.
My favorite werewolf would be Graves from Strange Angels, he's a hybrid and only partially changes.
Dottie :)
Chris: I’ve only read Twilight so far, but all this love for Jacob has moved New Moon further up my TBR pile :- )
Nfmfirl: Isn’t it strange how things come together! Thanks for the blog and the youtube link :- )
MJ: Thanks for dropping by, and hopefully I’ve managed to pique your interest in werewolves even if your name doesn’t come up this time : -)

Thanks everyone for dropping by, I'm having lots of fun reading all your comments :-)
I loved Will Kemp as Velkan Valerius / The Wolf Man in Van Helsing.
I would have to go with jack Nicholson from the movie Wolf. Those eyes!!!
Being an evil person who loves to mess with bureaucratic minds I have to ask; have you thought about getting together with CarrieV to do a cross over story?
Kitty in Hyde Park
or
Walkies with Lupines
mythusmage: Kitty in Hyde Park?!? Yay! She should come visit! And we loves evil persons ;-)
My favorite werewolf would have to be Adam from Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series.
