Giveaway: Late Eclipses - Seanan McGuire.

So this week (# 8) as part of my 16 weeks of giveaways to celebrate the releases of The Bitter Seed of Magic (out now UK!) and The Cold Kiss of Death(US edition out 26th April) I'm giving away Late Eclipses (#4 October Daye sereies) by Seanan McGuire! And one of the things, or I should say characters, I love most in the October Daye books is Tybalt - King of the Cats!
Giveaway now closed

Now, I'm not as familiar with Shakespeare as I could be (so I know I probably miss some of the wonderful references that are woven through the October books when I read), but I do know that Tybalt is a character in Romeo and Juliet, and in one of those six degree* (or less) things, I give you a gratuitous picture of Alan Rickman (not playing Tybalt) hugging a statue's head *g*.

Continuing on with the six degrees connections and gratuitous pictures, here's a gorgeous one of a Maine Coon Cat!

*What, you think I should've come up with something wittier? Yeah, me too, but sadly my brain is fried, I have a bad back, the Hound is moaning, Mr Mc is vacuuming (for which I love him, but ... noisy much!), and my deadline is near enough to block out the sun, so with all the 'O' woe is me' going on, this is what you're getting. ;p

So now we've established that October Daye, Alan Rickman, Shakespeare and Maine Coon Cats are all connected* ...

It's on with the giveaway! Yay!

Which is Late Eclipses the 4th October Daye book by Seanan McGuire (out now US and UK!)

"October "Toby" Daye is half-human, half-fae-the only changeling who's earned knighthood. But when someone begins targeting her nearest and dearest, it becomes clear that Toby is being set up to take the fall for everything that's happening."

"These late eclipses in the sun and moon portend no good to us . . ." King Lear - Shakespeare

Yay! Can't wait to read this! Methinks that the title taken from that quote will no doubt be extremely apt for Toby :-D

So, for a chance to win your own copy of Late Eclipses* all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what type of pet you have, or which is your favourite Alan Rickman character from TV or film. Personally I can't decided whether it's Severus Snape or the Sheriff of Nottingham *g*.

How to enter:

Leave a comment with your type of pet, or your fav Alan Rickman character.

Please leave a way to contact you (email in comment: Please remember to replace @ with [at] to forestall spam - or your twitter name - no way to contact you - no entry).

Giveaway is international and closes end of day (GMT time) 10th March 2011

Full General Terms and Rules at the bottom of this post here.

And don't forget to check out the Giveaway Schedule here. And so you don't miss out on a chance of winning any of the wonderful books in the coming weeks, why not follow me? (following is not a condition of entry).

Please note: My usual blog policy is that I try to reply to all comments on the blog, but for ease of admin I won't be replying to any comments made on any of the giveaway posts during the 16 weeks. Sorry, but it makes it much harder to sort out the winner. I will still continue to reply to comments on any other post, so if you have a question for me, leave it on one of those, thank you :-)

All book links lead to Amazon (UK/US) or the Book Depository, and contain affiliate links. I've decided to go affiliate as I love giving books away (and not just as a way of shameless self-promo), but boy does it get expensive.

* Or, winner can choose any of the previous books in the October Daye series, either for themselves, or to be sent to a friend :-).
x/posted to LJ. Comment here or there. One entry per person.

My favorite type of pet is dog. (I have four of them, so that's a no brainer).

Favorite Alan Rickman's character? Snape, definitely.

You didn't even need 6 degrees....Alan Rickman once played Tybalt in a TV Movie version of Romeo & Juliet, circa 1978. It's the very first entry on his IMDB filmography.

My sister moved in with her family and cat. Merlin is a big ol' gray & white tuxedo cat, who has decided my room (and esp. MY pillow) is his preferred hang-out. I also share custody, with my soon-to-be-ex, of Moxie (the Mighty Hunter Cat), and Smudge (the Cow Kitty...so named for size AND coloring!) Though I am allergic, i am definitely a cat person. :)

I loved Rickman as Marvin the Paranoid Android in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He has the best voice!

My favorite pet would be a cat.

I loved Rickman's portrayal of Snape! His nasal voice sounds exactly like how I imagined Snape's voice to be like.

I'm a total cat person. I had one cat as a kid that would play tag with me; crawl up my bureau to open the drawer where I tried to hide my Winterfresh gum (it looooved to eat it); wait for me by the window every single day when I got home from school. It also drooled. I have 2 cats now, 1 black & 1 white. They're great but I miss my childhood cat.

Alan Rickman as Snape! Whenever I see him in other movies, it always astounds me he doesn't wear a black cape all the time.

Cats! We have two, Pixel the tabby boy and Smudge the tortoiseshell queen. We did have a dog as a child but I always wanted cats.

My fave Alan character is all of them although the best two are the baddy in the Die Hard movie and his role in Dogma.

I'm somewhat partial to birds (probably because of having a great parrot for 15 years :))

and Alan Rickman is great in many roles but the best one is of course Hans Gruber from Die Hard...now that's a villain for you :)

Ooh, you totally sucked me in with the yummy Alan Rickman pic!

I would love to win a copy of Late Eclipses. I've heard good things about the October Daye books but haven't gotten round to checking them out yet.

The Sheriff of Nottingham will always do it for me. You can't beat a bad guy dressed in black! ;)

Currently pet-less :( but am the much loved aunt of an insane border collie!

My favorite pet: my red-tailed hawk - Pandi.

Favorite Alan Rickman character: While Snape is pretty good, I always liked Hans Gruber from the first "Die Hard" movie or Elliot Marston from "Quigley Down Under". Ricman plays such great bad guys.

We used to have lovebirds, but I was quite young when we had them, and because my brother and I didn't look after them (change the water/food when we needed to) and left it to Mum, they were given away, lol.
I love Rickman in Die Hard! Oooh, I love that movie!

I've got three lovely cats who can actually understand that if I read I do not have time for them and so they place themselves over my book and look at me with a naughty glare, challenging me to move them.
Also, I have a less-lovely brother, but I don't think he can be considered a pet. He's more of a wild animal.

Much as I love Snape, Alan Rickman won my heart forever when he sold the line: "I'm going to cut your heart out with a SPOON!" (as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves :)

Three cats and two dogs... but one of the dogs thinks he's a cat.... so CATS, most definitely.

As much as I adore Snape, I have to admit my FAVORITE Alan Rickman character is the Sheriff of Nottingham, in Prince of Thieves.

I am smallbrownbird on twitter, fenswoman at gmail dot com on email, or your southern neighbor near the new Half Price Books! *laughs*

I absolutely love this series. In theory, brother is getting it for me for my birthday, but I have plenty of friends who I can introduce to the seires :-)

I've got two gorgeous black labs at home, who I love. But while we're talking about Toby, I think the Rose Goblin sounds so cool! I'd love to have one of them.

I love black short hair cats.
As far as Alan Rickman goes it is a toss up between The Voice of God in Dogma & the ghost in Truly, Madly, Deeply.

I love cats and birds, but I travel too much to really keep a pet around. So the closest thing I have to pets are a doll collection and a spider plant. I also catsit a lot, so I occasionally have the joy of cleaning hairballs up off the carpet.

As for Alan Rickman, I remember him most as the Metatron in Dogma. Somehow it worked for him, especially with Alanis Morrosette as God in the last couple of scenes.

I'm Beccastareyes at gmail, in case this doesn't link right to my Google account. I'm also beccastareyes on Twitter.
